Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
