Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
