Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
