Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended since the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
