Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
