Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred since cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
