Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
